Khuzestan Braces for Intense Heatwave: Temperatures to Exceed 50°C This Weekend
Scorching Temperatures Grip Khuzestan
Residents of Khuzestan are set to endure another day of extreme heat, with temperatures forecasted to soar beyond 50°C in several areas this Saturday, August 16, 2024. According to the latest meteorological reports, the province remains under the grip of a persistent heatwave, raising concerns about health and environmental impacts.
Heatwave Persists Across the Province
Mohammad Sabzevari, Director-General of Khuzestan’s Meteorological Department, confirmed that a dominant hot air mass will continue to affect most regions of the province, excluding the elevated eastern and northern areas. “Temperatures of 49 to 50°C—and even higher—are expected in most parts of Khuzestan,” Sabzevari stated.
Humidity and Rising “Feels-Like” Temperatures
From midday Saturday through mid-next week, warm and humid southern air currents are predicted to increase moisture levels, leading to muggy conditions, light fog, and “feels-like” temperatures surpassing 50°C—particularly along the coast, southern half, and central-western regions of the province. The northern Persian Gulf is also expected to experience rough seas.
Recorded Extremes in Recent Days
Recent data highlights the severity of the heatwave:
- Shush recorded the highest temperature at 51.5°C, while Bostan remained the coolest at 26.1°C.
- Ahvaz experienced fluctuations between 49.2°C and 32.1°C in the past 24 hours.
Preparedness Advised
Authorities urge residents to take precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and monitoring vulnerable groups. The Meteorological Department continues to provide real-time updates to ensure public safety amid these challenging conditions.
