Iran’s Science Ministry Clarifies University Status Amidst Circulating Reports
Tehran Addresses University Operations
The Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (MSRT) has issued an official statement addressing widespread reports concerning the operational status of the nation’s universities. This clarification comes in response to circulating news that suggested an indefinite halt to all university activities, both in-person and virtually, from today.
Dispelling Misinformation
Earlier today, various news outlets and channels began reporting, purportedly citing the MSRT, that all university operations were suspended indefinitely until further notice. These reports claimed a new directive had been issued, rendering all higher education institutions temporarily inactive.
The MSRT, however, has firmly refuted these specific claims. In its statement, the Ministry clarified that no new decisions regarding university closures or a change in their operational status have been made since a previous directive on March 9th (Esfand 9 on the Iranian calendar). This earlier decision, which involved both the MSRT and the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), had mandated the closure of universities. The Ministry underscores that the status quo, as established by that prior directive, remains unchanged.
Upholding Official Communication Channels
The MSRT emphasized the critical importance of relying solely on official government sources for accurate information. Any legitimate updates or policy changes concerning the country’s higher education sector will be disseminated exclusively through the Ministry’s established communication channels and official references. This proactive measure aims to ensure public clarity and prevent the spread of unverified information regarding a vital aspect of national life and policy management.
