Title: Landmark Decision Consolidates Mobile Phone After-Sales Services Under Single Authority
A Resolution to a Long-Standing Dispute
After extensive professional deliberations, a final decision has been made regarding the regulatory oversight of mobile phone after-sales and repair services. A decisive meeting on October 7 concluded with the Dispute Resolution Commission ruling in favor of the Union for Sellers of Mobile Phones, Audio, and Video Equipment. This verdict was subsequently confirmed and ratified by the Tehran Chamber of Guilds on October 26, a move hailed by industry activists as a significant step toward eliminating consumer confusion and organizing the activities within this vital sector.
Streamlining Responsibilities for Clarity and Efficiency
Based on the official directive issued by the head of the Tehran Chamber of Guilds, the responsibilities for mobile phone registration and warranty-related affairs have been formally assigned to the Union for Sellers of Audio, Video, and Mobile Phone Devices. This action officially designates the after-sales service category and consolidates the authority for handling consumer inquiries and complaints under one unified body.
Ending Consumer Confusion
This regulatory change resolves a historical overlap that had persisted for years. While the Audio and Video Union had been issuing licenses for mobile phone sales for over a decade prior to the establishment of the Telecommunications Union, after-sales services were considered an integral part of the import and supply chain. This forced sellers to seek separate permits from the Telecommunications Union, creating a dual-system that often left consumers confused about where to direct their grievances, especially when sellers were not members of the latter union.
A Unified Path Forward
With the official enactment of the Tehran Chamber of Guilds’ decision, importers and producers will no longer need to obtain a separate permit from the Telecommunications Union for after-sales services; the license from the Audio, Video, and Mobile Phone Sellers Union will suffice. Consequently, consumers can now directly address any issues concerning warranties and after-sales services through a single, unified reference point, eliminating the previous need to navigate multiple entities and ensuring a more streamlined and efficient process.
