National Housing Drive Reaches Key Milestone with Thousands of Units Nearing Completion
In a significant step forward for the National Housing Movement, thousands of residential units are being prepared for handover to citizens in the new city of Sahand. This progress underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing housing needs through strategic development projects.
Project Progress and Handover
During a recent press conference, Farhad Saeidi, Managing Director of Sahand New Town Development Company, provided a detailed update on the housing initiative. He reported that 831 units were officially inaugurated in the previous Iranian year with the attendance of the former Minister of Roads and Urban Development. Furthermore, an additional one thousand units were prepared for the Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies (marking the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution) this year. While minor infrastructural issues with gas and water pipelines delayed their formal inauguration, these units were nevertheless delivered to applicants to meet urgent housing needs. An additional one thousand units are slated for inauguration in the current year upon the full resolution of these infrastructure matters.
Saeidi highlighted the quality of the ongoing projects, specifically naming the ‘Niloufar,’ ‘Shaghayegh,’ ‘Yalda,’ and ‘L.I.’ residential complexes as prime examples of the work being carried out in the city’s third and fourth phases.
Expanding Urban Infrastructure
The development plan extends far beyond housing. In alignment with national directives for enhancing educational and communal facilities, construction has begun on seven new schools, two of which are expected to be operational by the new academic year. In a major development for the community, the largest mosque in Sahand is also under construction. This complex will be a multi-functional hub, featuring a commercial center, a religious scholar’s residence, an amphitheater, administrative offices, and a warm kitchen.
Saeidi also noted the completion of foundational infrastructure projects valued at one hamt (a large unit of currency) and mentioned ongoing negotiations with the provincial elite center to explore the development of renewable energy sources for the city.
Recognition and Future necessities
The company’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, as Sahand New Town Development Company has earned the top rank for construction among Iran’s new cities. Sahand also holds the distinction of being the first new city in the country to be officially delivered to its municipal authority.
With the current population of 180,000 residents expected to swell to 250,000 upon the completion of the National Housing Movement projects, Saeidi emphasized the critical necessity of building a hospital. Although hospital construction falls outside the company’s direct mandate, the architectural and structural plans for a 220-bed facility have already been designed and approved by the Engineering System Organization. Saeidi indicated that construction could commence rapidly if certain exemptions are granted. This hospital would not only serve the local community but could also act as a support unit for hospitals in Tabriz within the framework of passive defense.
Commitment to Quality Assurance
Addressing the importance of construction standards, Saeidi assured that multiple layers of supervision, including the Engineering System and independent consulting auditors, are continuously monitoring and evaluating the quality of all projects, ensuring they meet the highest benchmarks.
