Iranian Speaker Hails Diplomatic Victory, Calls for National Unity
TEHRAN – In a significant address to the nation, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, lauded recent diplomatic achievements and underscored the critical need for national unity to consolidate these gains.
A Diplomatic Triumph
Speaking during an open parliamentary session, Ghalibaf declared that Iran’s steadfast resistance against “unjust sanctions and pressures” has culminated in a major victory on the international stage. He pointed to a joint letter from the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, and China to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council as a powerful symbol of “strategic solidarity” among the three nations.
“This joint correspondence,” Ghalibaf stated, “clearly asserts that the efforts of three European countries to activate the so-called snapback mechanism are fundamentally devoid of any legal credibility.”
The Speaker elaborated that, according to Paragraph 8 of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, all previous resolutions and restrictions have been terminated. He emphasized that with the formal acceptance of Iran’s enrichment rights, the nuclear file has been officially removed from the Security Council’s agenda.
A Shift in Global Power Dynamics
Ghalibaf framed this development as more than just a legal success for Iran. He described it as evidence of a changing global order, where the era of American unilateralism is ending.
“The world order is showing signs of a new era,” he said. “China and Russia, as two permanent members of the Security Council, have firmly stood by Iran’s side.” He added that Iran, along with Russia, China, and the 120 nations of the Non-Aligned Movement, have legally put an end to the misuse of international organizations’ capacities and have stood against the illegal imposition of will by the United States and several European countries.
Call for Political Unity
In light of these achievements, Ghalibaf issued a direct appeal for domestic political solidarity. He called on all political factions to set aside partisan differences and unite in support of the nation’s diplomatic accomplishments.
“Let us remember that Iran’s honor and pride lie in the unity and steadfastness of all,” he urged. “It is our national and religious duty to prioritize the national interest over partisan interests under any circumstances and to help consolidate today’s achievements for the country.”
Addressing Domestic Policy
Turning to domestic affairs, Ghalibaf defended the government’s decision to place the troubled Bank-e Ayandeh into a resolution process, describing it as a “major success for the country’s decision-making and governance system.”
He stated that this move, part of a comprehensive plan to reform the banking system, was necessary to address significant financial imbalances and would be executed to protect both the public and national assets. He also credited the parliament’s coordination with the government in passing a new central bank law for providing the necessary tools to prevent such crises in the future.
Ghalibaf concluded by stressing that true consensus among the nation’s branches of power is demonstrated by making such difficult decisions with minimal social and economic cost, ensuring that the national interest is ultimately served.
