Rewritten Title: Government Outlines Dual Focus: National Security and Citizen Welfare Amid Global Challenges
In a comprehensive address, Fatemeh Mahagerani, the Iranian government spokesperson, detailed the administration’s latest initiatives, emphasizing a dual-track policy of safeguarding the nation from foreign conflict while simultaneously addressing pressing domestic economic and social welfare issues.
A Primary Mandate: Diplomatic Shielding
A central pillar of the government’s efforts, Mahagerani stated, is an active and robust diplomacy aimed at distancing Iran from the specter of war. She affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is relentlessly pursuing this objective, which has been a consistent national priority for years. “The government is pursuing the goal of keeping war away from the country with all its might,” she declared, underscoring that while this remains a primary focus, all ministries are expected to efficiently execute their respective duties.
The Four Pillars of Justice
The spokesperson highlighted the President’s emphasis on implementing justice, outlining its four fundamental components. The foremost pillar is ensuring the public’s livelihood, with a specific focus on guaranteeing all citizens have access to sufficient food. Mahagerani acknowledged the “expansion of the poverty line” as a reality that must be addressed with transparency. “Whenever we speak transparently and clearly with the people about realities, acceptance undoubtedly improves,” she noted.
The government, she assured, is intensely focused on ensuring that the livelihoods of the populace, particularly the lower-income deciles who are more vulnerable to economic fluctuations, are protected. She expressed hope that through these efforts, the nation would raise a generation of children who were properly nourished in their early years. Initiatives like the “Yasna” plan, pursued by the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare, are designed to support this goal by providing adequate nutrition for pregnant women and children under five.
Balancing Act in a Complex Era
Mahagerani pointed to the challenging international context, noting that Iran is navigating its fifteenth year under sanctions and significant external pressure. Despite this, the administration is committed to a balanced approach. “The government has decided to both think about livelihoods and be deeply concerned about it, and to be active in other matters as well,” she explained. She firmly stated that the country’s broader development across all sectors cannot be halted, with a clear division of labor ensuring each ministry addresses its specific responsibilities.
Turning Waste into Environmental Solutions
Illustrating the government’s multi-faceted agenda, Mahagerani announced a new resolution concerning environmental protection and energy. To address the problem of burning mazut (heavy fuel oil) in factories, the government is promoting the production and use of Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) from waste. This initiative not only provides a cleaner alternative fuel for industries like cement but also helps tackle the serious issue of waste accumulation, particularly in northern provinces. She cited successful pilot experiences in source-separation of waste in Isfahan as a model for this new, environmentally-conscious policy.
Fostering Transparency and Dialogue
Concluding her remarks, the spokesperson framed her live television appearance as part of a broader effort to enhance government communication. The weekly program, she stated, is an initiative to ensure that “the people, as the main stakeholders in society, know what the government is doing.” It serves as a platform for increased dialogue, where ministers and officials can directly address public inquiries and concerns.
