Rewritten Title: Iran Implements Weekend Traffic Management Plan for Key Northern Highways
In a move to ensure road safety and manage the high volume of weekend travel, Iran’s Traffic Police have announced a detailed set of temporary restrictions for major northern routes.
Strategic Traffic Controls Announced
According to Colonel Ahmad Shirani, Head of the Information and Traffic Control Center of the Law Enforcement’s Traffic Police, the measures are designed to enhance safety and ensure a smooth flow of traffic. The restrictions will be in effect on the Chalus, Haraz, and Fasham routes starting the morning of Friday.
Chalus Route Regulations
Specific and decisive traffic limitations have been planned for the Karaj-Chalus road. As outlined by Colonel Shirani:
- Travel restrictions for vehicles destined for Chalus will begin at 12:00 PM.
- At 1:00 PM, the entrance to the Zangoleh Bridge (the northern end of the Alborz Tunnel towards Chalus) will be completely closed.
- As per the approved traffic plan, the route from Marzan Abad towards Tehran will become one-way from 3:00 PM to alleviate southbound traffic congestion.
- These restrictions will remain in place until midnight, after which the road will revert to two-way traffic.
Colonel Shirani clarified that the old Karaj-Chalus road up to the Zangoleh Bridge area remains accessible for local residents. However, vehicles intending to travel to Chalus are prohibited from proceeding north from Amirkabir Square.
Haraz and Fasham Route Measures
The traffic plan also includes key provisions for other popular northern corridors:
- On the Haraz route, the passage of all trailer trucks remains prohibited. Furthermore, trucks and pickups—with the exception of those carrying fuel or perishable goods—are banned from using this route from 8:00 AM until midnight.
- Should traffic volume increase significantly, intermittent one-way restrictions may be implemented in the Polur to Larijan Police Road area and vice-versa.
- For the Fasham route, a one-way system will be enforced from the end of Hajiabad Bridge (or the beginning of Aryana bend) towards the Fasham exit from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
A Call for Public Cooperation
Colonel Shirani concluded by emphasizing that all restrictions are subject to change based on real-time traffic conditions and the discretion of traffic police officers. He urged all drivers to check the latest road status through the official Traffic Police notification systems before beginning their journeys. By adhering to the regulations, the public can play a vital role in reducing accidents and facilitating smoother travel for all.
