Pezeshkian’s Nowruz Vision: Unwavering Unity for a Stable Iran and Peaceful Middle East
Tehran, Iran – In his inaugural Nowruz address, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a powerful call for national unity and solidarity, emphasizing the need for collective action to navigate regional and global challenges. Marking the beginning of the new Persian year 1405, the President’s message, delivered via video, underscored the profound cultural significance of Nowruz as a symbol of renewal and cohesion for the Iranian nation.
A Call for National Cohesion and Forgiveness
President Pezeshkian opened his speech by urging citizens to set aside grudges, resentments, and differences, stressing that the current year, more than any other, requires the spirit of Nowruz to foster national unity, integrity, and consensus. “We need a Nowruz that showcases the unity, coherence, and national consensus embedded in our culture,” he stated.
He also conveyed heartfelt condolences for recent national losses, including the martyrdom of devoted servants of the nation, and paid respects to the Supreme Leader. The President highlighted the auspicious convergence of Nowruz, an ancient symbol of new beginnings, and Eid al-Fitr, a time for spiritual purification, as a unique opportunity for collective self-reflection and national advancement.
Reaffirming Iran’s Peaceful Nuclear Stance
Addressing international concerns, President Pezeshkian unequivocally reiterated Iran’s commitment to a peaceful nuclear program, firmly rejecting the pursuit of nuclear weapons. He cited the Supreme Leader’s consistent declarations that nuclear weapons are religiously forbidden (haram), emphasizing that no official in the Islamic Republic is permitted to develop or pursue weapons of mass destruction.
The President criticized narratives from some foreign powers and international media that falsely accuse Iran of seeking nuclear arms, asserting that such claims distort Iran’s genuine intentions and peaceful policies.
Diplomacy and Regional Security
President Pezeshkian outlined Iran’s vision for regional peace and cooperation, particularly with Muslim nations. He affirmed that Iran does not seek conflict or war with its Muslim brethren, viewing any existing differences as stemming from external adversaries seeking to sow discord.
In a significant diplomatic proposal, he advocated for the establishment of an Islamic security framework in the Middle East. This structure, he suggested, would be composed solely of Islamic countries in the region, capable of guaranteeing peace, security, and stability without the need for foreign intervention. He proposed forming an “Islamic Parliament of the Middle East” to coordinate security, economic, cultural, and political relations among member states.
The President urged regional neighbors to reject external provocations designed to trap them in conflict, stating, “We declare to the world that we are not seeking chaos in the region.” He emphasized Iran’s non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and its commitment to regional stability.
Countering Misinformation and Highlighting Resilience
President Pezeshkian also addressed perceived international double standards regarding human rights and civilian casualties. He lamented the ‘martyrdom’ of innocent children in schools, presenting these tragedies as stark contradictions to proclaimed human rights values by certain global actors.
He further lauded the historic resilience and unwavering support of the Iranian people, recalling their active participation during national challenges and times of conflict. He praised the dedication of Basij forces and law enforcement for maintaining public security, and acknowledged the government’s tireless efforts to provide services, even amidst various challenges.
The President extended an invitation to Iranians residing abroad to set aside past grievances and contribute to the nation’s prosperity and honor, fostering unity for Iran’s advancement.
A Vision for a Prosperous and Secure Future
Concluding his address, President Pezeshkian expressed confidence that through unity and empathy, Iran would build a proud and honorable future for its people. He affirmed Iran’s commitment to pursuing peace and friendship with its neighbors, aiming to foster regional tranquility, development, and economic prosperity. “We can, together with our neighboring countries, achieve security and well-being in the region,” he stated, outlining a collaborative path forward for a stable and thriving Middle East.
