Iran Launches New Phase of Targeted Subsidy Support for Low-Income Households
In a significant move to ensure economic stability and equitable resource distribution, the Iranian government has initiated the latest phase of its electronic voucher and cash subsidy program. This initiative, designed to support low-income families and stabilize the prices of essential goods, began its fund transfer process this week.
A Commitment to Equitable Support
The program is a cornerstone of the government’s policy to manage national resources effectively and provide direct support to its citizens. Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis), recently confirmed that all necessary preparations for the distribution of commodity-based vouchers have been finalized. He emphasized the government’s full commitment to the scheme, stating that any technical or credit-related issues would be promptly resolved in cooperation with relevant institutions.
This targeted approach is a key part of the nation’s broader economic planning, focusing assistance on those who need it most.
Detailed Breakdown of Benefits
The support package for eligible households is structured in two parts: electronic vouchers for essential goods and direct cash subsidies.
Electronic Voucher Allotment (Phase Four):
Households in the first to seventh income deciles can utilize their electronic voucher credit to purchase 12 essential items. The allocated amounts are:
- First to Third Deciles: 500,000 Tomans per person.
- Fourth to Seventh Deciles: 350,000 Tomans per person.
Direct Cash Subsidy Payments:
In a complementary measure, direct cash transfers are being made on two separate dates:
- First to Third Deciles: 400,000 Tomans, transferred on the 25th of Mehr.
- Fourth to Ninth Deciles: 300,000 Tomans, transferred on the 30th of Mehr.
Total Combined Support:
This structure means that a family in the first to third deciles can receive up to 900,000 Tomans in total combined support. Families in the fourth to seventh deciles are eligible for a total of 750,000 Tomans when both voucher credit and cash subsidies are combined. All funds are deposited directly into the bank account of the household head.
Price Stability for Essential Goods
A critical component of the new voucher scheme is the provision of 13 essential goods at stabilized prices. The Minister of Agriculture Jahad confirmed that the prices for items such as rice, oil, red meat, chicken, dairy products, pasta, legumes, eggs, and sugar will remain fixed within this program. The government has committed to compensating for any price increases resulting from the removal of preferential currency rates, thereby shielding consumers from market fluctuations.
Streamlined Access and Inquiries
To ensure transparency and ease of access, heads of households can check their voucher credit balance through official platforms, including the website shoma.sfara.ir or by dialing the code #1463500*. These systems are designed to provide citizens with immediate and clear information regarding their benefits.
Strategic Reallocation of Resources
In line with the approved national budget, the program involves a strategic reallocation of resources. Subsidies for the eighth, ninth, and tenth income deciles have been discontinued. The resources from this measure are being redirected to strengthen the voucher and cash support system for lower-income deciles, ensuring that national resources are channeled to those with the greatest need.
This comprehensive support system, effective from Aban 1404, underscores the government’s focused strategy on social welfare and economic resilience, providing a tangible safety net for millions of Iranian families.
