Title: Parliament Greenlights Driver Insurance Plan, Securing Pension Rights for Retirees
In a significant move to bolster social welfare and economic participation, the Iranian Parliament has advanced a new Driver Insurance Plan. This initiative, announced by a senior official from the Tehran Social Security Pensioners’ Association, is designed to extend comprehensive insurance coverage to the nation’s large driver community while formally protecting the pension rights of retirees who choose to work.
A New Framework for Retiree Drivers
The plan directly addresses the situation of many pensioners who, due to economic needs, work part-time in the ride-hailing and transportation sector. Under current regulations, any form of employment can jeopardize the receipt of a pension, creating a legal and financial dilemma for these individuals.
The newly proposed legislation aims to resolve this conflict. By creating a legal pathway for employment, it ensures that retirees can supplement their income through driving without the risk of having their pensions suspended.
Ending Legal Ambiguity and Public Misinformation
The official, Dehghankia, clarified that the plan is a corrective measure to existing laws that have sometimes led to complications during account audits for working pensioners. He also addressed public discourse on the matter, stating that certain narratives attempting to generate undue concern about the proposal are based on misinformation.
He emphasized that the Parliament and the Social Security Organization are collaboratively working to refine the legal framework. This effort is focused on eliminating previous ambiguities and ensuring that the economic activities of retirees are fully recognized and protected by law, thereby strengthening the social safety net.
