Persepolis Backs Postponement of Key Match Against Tractor
A Scheduling Dilemma Emerges
A significant fixture in Iran’s domestic football calendar has become the center of a scheduling conflict, prompting a unified response from two rival clubs. The match between Persepolis and Tractor, originally set for the Hazfi Cup, is now likely to be postponed due to the national team’s extended participation in an international tournament.
The issue arose after the Iranian national team reached the finals of the tournament in Al Ain, delaying the return of key players to their respective clubs. Tractor Club formally requested a postponement, citing the insufficient recovery time for its national team players between their international duties and the high-stakes cup match against Persepolis, followed shortly by another league game.
League Organization Reconsiders
Initially, the Iranian League Organization had officially rejected Tractor’s request. However, the national team’s success in reaching the final has fundamentally altered the circumstances. With the players’ return now delayed, the initial scheduling became unworkable, forcing the league body to re-evaluate its position.
Persepolis Welcomes the Decision
In a move highlighting the practical challenges faced by clubs, Persepolis and its technical staff have reportedly welcomed the potential postponement. While the League Organization has not yet formally sought the club’s opinion, sources indicate that Persepolis would likely respond favorably to a rescheduling.
The final decision rests with Persepolis’s head coach, Osmar, who has expressed to his staff that facing Tractor under the current compressed timeline would be exceptionally difficult. He has voiced his support for moving the match to a later date, a sentiment that appears to be shared across the club’s management. This mutual agreement between the two rival teams underscores the broader logistical considerations within Iranian professional football.
