In a move to support its members, the Iranian Cinema Actors’ Guild has formally addressed the need for personal safety devices, clarifying the rationale behind a recent internal announcement.
Addressing Member Needs and Preventing Exploitation
Pouzhman Bazargi, the head of the guild, explained that the association acted upon receiving multiple requests from members for access to personal safety equipment, such as electronic shock devices and sprays. The primary motivation for issuing an internal notice was to protect members from potential fraud.
Bazargi stated that some individuals were attempting to exploit the actors’ needs by offering the equipment at exorbitant prices, reportedly demanding 30 to 40 million tomans. To counter this, the guild organized a legal and secure channel to provide the same items for a significantly lower cost of seven million tomans, ensuring both affordability and legitimacy for its members.
A Standard Service, Not an Extraordinary Measure
Emphasizing the normalcy of this action, Bazargi drew a parallel to other professional syndicates, including those for doctors and goldsmiths, which often facilitate similar services for their members’ welfare and security. He framed the provision of safety equipment as a standard service offered under the guild’s bylaws, designed solely for the personal protection of its members in their daily lives.
Ensuring Safety and Proper Training
The process for obtaining the equipment was outlined as being conducted under official supervision. Bazargi confirmed that the distribution is overseen by a trusted intermediary company with the knowledge of relevant security officials. Furthermore, to ensure responsible use, instructional materials were prepared under the guidance of an expert, teaching members how to utilize the devices correctly.
Bazargi concluded that for many members residing in suburban areas around Tehran, having access to such legally-provided safety equipment offers peace of mind for various situations, reinforcing the guild’s role in supporting its members’ security through official and regulated means.
