Putin Announces Orthodox Easter Truce on Ukrainian Front Following Kyiv’s Proposal
Kremlin Confirms Ceasefire Amidst Renewed Diplomatic Overtures
In a significant diplomatic development, Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a temporary ceasefire on the Ukrainian front, coinciding with the Orthodox Easter holiday. The Kremlin announced that this decision follows a similar proposal put forth by Kyiv for a cessation of hostilities.
Kyiv’s Initiative for Holiday Truce
Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated that his government had approved a proposal for a holiday ceasefire. This move comes at a time when broader peace negotiations to resolve the ongoing conflict have reportedly been impacted by developments in the Middle East.
Details of the Ceasefire
According to a statement released by the Kremlin, the ceasefire is slated to commence at 16:00 local time (13:00 GMT) on April 11th and will extend through the end of April 12th, 2026. This period is specifically aligned with the observance of the Orthodox Easter.
Operational Directives for Russian Forces
The Kremlin confirmed that the General Staff has been instructed to halt combat operations in all directions for the duration of the ceasefire. The statement also emphasized that Russian forces are prepared to “respond to any potential provocations by the enemy.”
