Iran Approves Major Financial Package to Settle Pension Obligations and Clear Arrears
In a significant move to address financial commitments to its pensioners, Iran’s Supreme Council for Economic Coordination among the Heads of the Branches of Power has approved a comprehensive plan to settle obligations to the Social Security Organization.
A Substantial Financial Injection
The recently approved measure allocates 185 thousand billion tomans to the government for this purpose. This substantial sum is structured through two primary channels: 70 thousand billion tomans in Islamic financial bonds and 115 thousand billion tomans in shares and assets. This decision underscores the coordinated efforts of the nation’s leadership to bolster the financial health of the social security system.
Clearing Healthcare Debts and Commencing Pension Payments
Following the formal notification of this resolution and the allocation of credit, the process of issuing the approved bonds and converting them into liquid assets will begin. Once this multi-stage process is complete, the funds will be used to pay the outstanding claims of both university-affiliated and non-university medical centers, as well as supplementary medical insurance providers.
In parallel, and as a follow-up to the organization’s earlier announcement, the process of paying adjusted arrears and annual salary increases related to the period starting from Farvardin (the first month of the Iranian calendar) will commence. Starting from Monday, Mehr 21st, the remaining eligible retirees and pensioners will begin receiving these payments gradually and consistently through agent banks.
Phased Payment Schedule Recap
It is worth noting that the first phase of these payments was executed on the 12th of Shahrivar for all retirees with a total income of up to 20 million tomans, as well as all disabled pensioners. The second phase was subsequently carried out for all survivor pensioners, concurrent with the payment of Shahrivar month’s pensions.
