Iranian Social Security Organization Initiates Long-Awaited Pension Adjustments
The Iranian Social Security Organization (SSO) has officially announced the commencement of payments for annual pension adjustments and raises, a move that will benefit approximately five million retirees and pensioners across the nation.
In a public statement, the SSO outlined a phased payment schedule, attributing a prior delay to complex financial constraints and challenges in balancing its resources and expenditures. The organization extended an apology for this delay while affirming its commitment to settling all outstanding dues.
A Phased and Prioritized Payment Plan
To ensure an orderly and equitable distribution, the payments will be executed in three distinct phases:
- Phase One: Commencing on September 2, 2024. This initial phase prioritizes all retirees whose total pension and benefits do not exceed 20 million tomans, in addition to all disability pensioners.
- Phase Two: Scheduled concurrently with the regular September pension payment. This phase will cover all survivor pensioners.
- Phase Three: Following the disbursement of September’s regular pensions. This final phase will include all remaining retirees.
Fulfilling a Key Commitment
This disbursement resolves the long-pending adjustment for the Iranian month of Farvardin (March-April 2024), a commitment that had been a focal point for pensioner advocacy groups and government officials for several months. The head of the SSO had previously emphasized that settling these arrears was a top financial priority for the institution, highlighting government cooperation in securing the necessary resources.
Retirees are expected to receive an adjusted amount estimated to be between 3 to 6 million tomans, depending on their individual pension level. The precise sum for each beneficiary will be detailed in updated pension slips, which will be made available on the official SSO online portal, Tamin Ma’n, prior to the bank transfer.
Official Channels for Information
The SSO’s Public Relations Directorate has been designated as the sole official source for news and announcements. Pensioners are advised to follow developments through the official website (Tamin.ir) or the organization’s verified social media channels under the unified handle @Tamin_Media.
Furthermore, the SSO’s 24/7 response hotline, accessible by dialing 1420 from any phone within Iran without an area code, remains available to address beneficiaries’ inquiries.
This decisive action is seen as a critical step in supporting the livelihoods of the nation’s retirees, particularly those with lower and fixed incomes. The successful execution of this phased plan is anticipated to reinforce confidence in the social security system and its ability to meet its long-term financial obligations.
