Substantial Premium Increase Under Review
Mohammad Jamalian, a member of the Parliament’s Health and Treatment Commission, confirmed that the proposed premium for the retirees’ supplemental health insurance has seen a considerable increase. While acknowledging the rise, Jamalian emphasized the parliament’s close attention to the matter, highlighting that the welfare of the elderly is a primary concern for the legislative body.
Commitment to Retiree Welfare
In his statements, Jamalian expressed gratitude for the efforts of Mostafa Salari, the head of the Social Security Organization, in defending the rights of pensioners. He stressed that the necessary measures for renewing the insurance contract should have been finalized earlier to prevent any uncertainty for retirees.
The MP explained that supplemental insurance is vital for managing healthcare costs, which can be a significant burden on retirees’ finances. He reaffirmed that, in accordance with Article 54 of the Social Security Law, the organization is legally obligated to cover the treatment costs of its members.
Pathways to a Solution
Jamalian detailed the ongoing efforts to resolve the situation. Following high-level discussions, the head of the Social Security Organization has pledged to finalize the insurance contract imminently.
Furthermore, a robust backup plan is in place. Should an agreement on the premium not be reached, the Social Security Organization will enter into a direct agreement with the Ministry of Health. This alternative arrangement would ensure that retirees receive comprehensive medical services completely free of charge at all university-affiliated medical centers, with the organization covering all associated costs.
In the interim, the Social Security Organization has directed its owned medical centers to provide services to retirees without delay, ensuring continuous access to necessary healthcare. This multi-pronged approach underscores the system’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its retired community.
