Iran Enhances Global Academic Engagement with Streamlined Student Departure Policy
Tehran Prioritizes International Student Mobility
Tehran, Iran – In a move set to bolster its international academic exchange programs, Iran has announced a significant policy change aimed at facilitating the departure of foreign students from the country. Dr. Saeed Habiba, Deputy Minister of Science, Head of the Student Affairs Organization, and President of the Supreme Council for Planning and Management of Non-Iranian Students, issued a directive to universities nationwide, outlining new, simplified procedures for international students’ exit. This initiative underscores Iran’s commitment to providing a supportive and efficient environment for its global academic community.
Streamlining Departure Logistics
The new policy, a result of direct coordination with the Immigration and Passport Police of FRAJA, eliminates the previous requirement for an exit permit for foreign students. Under the revised guidelines, international students can now depart through any of Iran’s land borders by simply presenting their valid passports at border checkpoints. This measure significantly reduces bureaucratic hurdles, ensuring a smoother and more convenient experience for students completing their studies or needing to travel.
University Cooperation Mandated
The directive also places clear responsibilities on all universities hosting international students, whether state-owned, private, or Azad University branches. These institutions are now obligated to provide comprehensive cooperation and support to foreign students regarding their departure. Crucially, universities must also accommodate academic schedules by announcing alternative timings for final examinations, thesis defenses, and other academic commitments, ensuring these decisions are communicated fully and proactively to students. This demonstrates an integrated approach to student welfare, from academic completion to logistical support for departure.
Fostering Academic Ties and International Collaboration
This policy adjustment reflects Iran’s ongoing efforts to enhance its appeal as a destination for international education and research. By prioritizing the ease of student mobility and ensuring a supportive academic and administrative framework, Iran aims to strengthen its educational diplomacy and foster deeper academic ties with countries worldwide. The streamlined process is expected to further encourage international talent to choose Iran for their higher education pursuits, contributing to a vibrant and diverse academic landscape.
