Hezbollah Deputy Chief Lauds Iran as ‘World’s Crown Jewel’ Amidst Existential Challenges
Introduction
Sheikh Naim Qassem, the Deputy Secretary-General of Hezbollah, delivered a significant address emphasizing Lebanon’s existential defense against aggression and commending Iran’s pivotal role in global resistance. Speaking at a ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the Islamic Institute for Education and Training, which coincided with the 47th anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Sheikh Qassem articulated a vision of unwavering national sovereignty and steadfast resistance.
Defending Lebanese Sovereignty
In his remarks, Sheikh Qassem stated that Lebanon is engaged in an “existential defense,” confronting aggression that seeks to undermine its very foundation. He affirmed Hezbollah’s readiness to engage in discussions regarding strategies for repelling “Israeli aggression” and reiterated that protecting Lebanese sovereignty is a comprehensive national responsibility that encompasses all segments of society.
He further highlighted the broader challenge of “American hegemony,” which he described as extending beyond regional boundaries to encompass the entire world. “Do we stand against this dominance, or do we surrender to it and forsake our land and sovereignty?” he questioned. Sheikh Qassem asserted that hostile actions, such as targeting civilian homes in Kafr Tibnit and Ain Qana, aim to coerce the population into submission. He called for an unyielding stance, emphasizing the necessity to “insist on saying ‘no'” and to make “no retreat or concessions” in the face of aggression.
Iran: A Guiding Light of Resistance
Sheikh Qassem extended congratulations to the people and leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the 47th anniversary of its Islamic Revolution, initiated by Imam Khomeini and continued under the guidance of Ayatollah Khamenei. He praised Iran for having “ignited a great light for freedom, jihad, and resistance in the world.”
Expressing his profound conviction, Sheikh Qassem stated, “God willing, Iran will forever remain the jewel in the crown of the world, and it will be able to defeat the United States and ‘Israel’ in the confrontation underway at this time.” He underscored his belief that “whoever is with God will achieve nothing but victory, and whoever carries the banner of Imam Mahdi will be victorious,” linking divine support to the ultimate triumph of resistance forces.
Navigating Internal Lebanese Politics
Addressing the domestic political landscape, Sheikh Qassem urged Lebanese officials to resist external pressures, particularly from the US and ‘Israel’, regarding the implementation of agreements and the cessation of aggression. He cautioned against any actions that might invite further external demands, asserting that “no more demands are being made of Lebanon.” He underscored the substantial sacrifices made by the Lebanese people, affirming their collective inability to yield to additional pressure.
According to Sheikh Qassem, Hezbollah remains committed to state-building, having participated in presidential elections and government formation. He criticized certain ministers for fostering internal strife and for treating government functions as partisan tools. He highlighted the collective effort, involving Hezbollah, the Amal Movement, and other national figures, in passing the national budget to avert economic crisis. He drew a contrast between “the resistance and its supporters,” identified with national sovereignty and liberation, and “claimants of sovereignty” who he suggested are influenced by American guardianship and fail to condemn ‘Israel’ or promote national unity.
Sheikh Qassem called for internal unity centered on four core national principles: halting aggression, enemy withdrawal, releasing prisoners, and reconstruction. He stressed that those aspiring to contribute to Lebanese nationalism must prioritize these objectives before a comprehensive national strategy for Lebanon’s preservation can be established.
A Vision of Victory and Education
The Hezbollah deputy chief also elaborated on the ideological foundations of the movement, reiterating the belief in the advent of Imam Mahdi as a divine promise of decisive victory, destined to transform the world from injustice to justice. He affirmed, “We believe that Hezbollah is the party of Imam Mahdi; if you can stand against Imam Mahdi, try.”
Concluding his speech, Sheikh Qassem celebrated the anniversary of Al-Mahdi Schools, an institution founded on principles of national education combined with Islamic upbringing. He lauded their high academic standards and commitment to fostering love for the homeland, defending the land, and aiding the oppressed, thereby integrating education with the broader vision of resistance and national purpose.
