New Environmental Protection Measures Unveiled
In a strategic meeting of the Golestan National Park Steering Council, Shina Ansari, head of Iran’s Department of Environment, announced a pilot initiative aimed at reducing conflicts faced by park rangers and strengthening conservation efforts in one of the country’s most valuable biosphere reserves.
The session, attended by the governors of Golestan and North Khorasan provinces as well as council members, emphasized the government’s commitment to environmental preservation under the leadership of the President.
Key Focus: Reducing Conflicts & Strengthening Conservation
Ansari highlighted that the pilot program, once evaluated for strengths and weaknesses, will be expanded to other protected areas nationwide. This expansion seeks to address staffing and equipment shortages while improving the management of Iran’s four-category conservation zones.
She further noted that the government’s environmental strategy includes not only enhanced monitoring technology but also a community-focused approach, emphasizing education and local stakeholder engagement.
Strengthening Governance & Public Participation
By revising the council’s bylaws and prioritizing inclusive stakeholder involvement, Ansari stressed that efforts must concentrate on minimizing conflicts and maximizing protection of Golestan National Park’s natural treasures.
Provincial governors Ali Asghar Tahmasbi (Golestan) and Bahman Nouri (North Khorasan) also shared insights, advocating for unified management and greater public participation in conservation efforts.
This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to balancing environmental sustainability with effective governance, ensuring Iran’s natural heritage remains safeguarded for future generations.
