Title: Iran and Belarus Strengthen Ties Amid Regional Tensions, Emphasize Sovereignty and Cooperation
High-Level Meeting Between Iranian and Belarusian Officials
Dmitry Koltsov, the Belarusian Ambassador to Tehran, met with Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, on Wednesday morning in Baharestan. The discussions centered on bilateral relations, regional stability, and recent geopolitical developments.
Iran’s Firm Response to Aggression
Qalibaf reiterated Iran’s unwavering stance on defending its territorial integrity, referencing recent illegal and criminal attacks by Israel and the U.S. on Iranian nuclear facilities. He emphasized that Iran had issued prior warnings against any aggression and delivered a decisive response, which would be even stronger if such actions were repeated.
“At the time of the attack, Iran was engaged in indirect negotiations with the U.S.,” Qalibaf stated. “Despite this, we witnessed an unlawful violation of our sovereignty. Our response was resolute, forcing the aggressors to halt their imposed war.”
Commitment to Regional Peace and Stability
The Speaker highlighted Iran’s policy of promoting peace and stability in the region, attributing tensions to the illegitimate presence of Israel as a proxy force for the U.S. He reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to counter any further aggression with greater force.
Expanding Iran-Belarus Relations
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of parliamentary and governmental relations, identifying new opportunities for cooperation, particularly within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Qalibaf pointed to legislative measures aimed at deepening ties with Eurasian nations, stressing the importance of economic collaboration, especially in the private sector.
Ambassador Koltsov praised the historical bonds between Belarus and Iran, noting growing bilateral cooperation across multiple fields. He expressed Belarus’s readiness to further enhance relations and announced plans to convene a joint economic cooperation commission by the end of the year.
Belarus Stands with Iran
Koltsov commended Iran’s resilience in the face of external pressures, stating, “The Iranian people have demonstrated their strength and commitment to their homeland during challenging times.”
The meeting underscored both nations’ shared commitment to sovereignty, mutual cooperation, and regional stability, paving the way for strengthened diplomatic and economic ties.
