Title: Parliament Prioritizes Worker and Retiree Welfare with New Support Measures
In a significant move to bolster social welfare, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s Social Commission has announced a series of initiatives focused on improving the livelihoods of workers and retirees. The plan underscores the government’s and parliament’s ongoing commitment to this vital segment of society.
Key Initiatives Announced
During a meeting with labor and retiree union representatives in Babol, Mazandaran, MP Fatemi outlined the commission’s primary objectives. The central programs include the reintegration of the Bank of Welfare of Workers with the Social Security Organization and the implementation of a multi-stage increase in wages for both active workers and pensioners.
MP Fatemi emphasized the commission’s “serious effort” to enhance living conditions, specifically addressing challenges related to supplemental insurance and free medical treatment for workers and retirees.
Strengthening Collective Voice
The meeting highlighted the crucial role of labor and retiree organizations. MP Fatemi stressed that a “powerful and cohesive” workforce is essential for national production and comprehensive growth. He noted that more dynamic and active unions ensure that the demands of workers and retirees are “effectively heard by officials.”
He further described institutions like the Workers’ House and the Retirees’ Association as vital links between the government, parliament, and the people, capable of resolving problems and minimizing socio-economic challenges through their performance.
Addressing Financial Challenges
Nassrollah Daryabeigi, the Executive Secretary of the Mazandaran Workers’ House, echoed the urgency of these measures. He pointed to the “difficult economic and living conditions” faced by many and highlighted the financial strain on the Social Security Fund, which faces challenges in meeting its commitments, including free treatment and pension adjustments, due to resource constraints.
