East Azerbaijan on High Alert After Iran Alleges ‘US-Zionist’ Strikes on Security Sites
East Azerbaijan Province has been placed on high alert following a series of explosions that Iranian officials attribute to “US-Zionist” forces. The alleged coordinated attacks reportedly targeted key security installations across the province, prompting a swift response from authorities.
Key Security Installations Targeted
Majid Farshi, Director General of Crisis Management for the East Azerbaijan Governor’s Office, confirmed the incidents in an interview with ISNA news agency. According to Mr. Farshi, in Tabriz, the provincial capital, two significant sites were struck: the building of the Hafez Special Forces Unit on Hafez Street and the Criminal Investigation Police building in Nasrabad.
Beyond Tabriz, Mr. Farshi reported that police and military centers in several other towns within the province were also targeted. These locations include Bonab, Osku, Ajabshir, Azarshahr, Maragheh, and Malekan, indicating a broader, seemingly coordinated effort across the region.
Official Confirmation and Public Advisory
As of the initial reports, aid organizations had not confirmed any fatalities, though the number of individuals injured in the attacks is currently under assessment.
Mr. Farshi urged the public to exercise caution and avoid the affected areas. He specifically requested citizens to refrain from approaching the sites of the alleged attacks, to use alternative routes for travel, and to avoid filming or stopping in these sensitive zones, emphasizing the ongoing security measures. The allegations of foreign involvement in these strikes underscore significant national security concerns and highlight potential geopolitical tensions in the region.
