Tehran Court Proceeds with Homicide Trial Following Familial Tragedy
Initial Report and Arrest
TEHRAN – In the early hours of Friday, November 15, 2024, a report of a suspicious death was filed with the Police Emergency Center 110. The incident occurred on the rooftop residence of a building in Tehran’s Pirouzi neighborhood.
A specialized team of detectives from the 10th Department of Tehran Criminal Investigations, alongside the presiding investigative judge, Mohsen Ekhtiari, from the First Branch of the Criminal Prosecutor’s Office for Homicide, was dispatched to the scene. They discovered the body of a approximately 50-year-old woman who had succumbed to eight stab wounds to the neck. Preliminary investigations indicated that the victim’s son was the primary suspect in this tragic crime.
The suspect, who was present at the scene, was subsequently apprehended by detectives. In his initial statement, the young man explained that he lived in the building with his brother, while his mother and stepfather resided on the rooftop. He stated that ongoing disputes over his mother’s insistence that he move out and rent his own home had created significant tension. On the night of the incident, he admitted to consuming alcohol, which escalated an argument over the same subject. He claimed that in a moment of intense anger, he committed the act.
Legal Process and Victim’s Family Pardon
The legal proceedings continued through the requisite judicial channels. Subsequently, the heirs of the victim (first-degree relatives) formally attended the prosecutor’s office. They declared their satisfaction with the judicial process and officially pardoned the defendant, foregoing their right to demand retribution (qisas).
Following the completion of interrogation sessions, crime scene reconstruction, and supplementary investigations, Judge Ekhtiari from the First Branch of the Criminal Prosecutor’s Office issued an indictment. The prosecution of the young male defendant, charged with direct involvement in premeditated murder, was formally initiated by the Prosecutor’s Office of the 27th District (Special Homicide Crimes).
Next Steps in the Judicial Process
Consequently, the accused will soon face trial at the Tehran Provincial Criminal Court. This trial will address the public aspect of the crime, as the private right of the heirs has been settled through their pardon. The Iranian judiciary will now examine the case to deliver a final verdict in accordance with the law.
