Tehran Industrial Zones Implement Twice-Weekly Shutdowns: Strategic Energy Measures Explained
Energy Conservation Measures Prompt Temporary Industrial Shutdowns
Tehran’s industrial zones will observe two weekly shutdown days, along with nightly operational restrictions from 6 PM to midnight, as part of a coordinated effort between the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Energy. The move aims to optimize energy consumption while maintaining minimal lighting and essential services.
Collaborative Efforts to Sustain Production
Hesmatollah Asgari, Deputy Economic Governor of Tehran, highlighted the cooperation of manufacturing units in adhering to the new measures. “Smart control systems have been installed on power generators to ensure secondary fuel supply, streamlining distribution,” he stated. Units now receive diesel fuel—their secondary energy source—proportionate to their electricity output.
Generators Ease but Do Not Eliminate Challenges
While the installation of generators has reduced shutdown hours, Asgari noted persistent pressures on production units. “Facilities with generators remain operational but face limitations—these devices can only function for up to five hours at a time,” he explained. Generators are estimated to offset 40–50% of production constraints, though this still leaves significant operational hurdles.
Balancing Energy Needs and Industrial Output
The measures reflect a strategic balance between energy conservation and sustaining industrial activity. Authorities continue to refine fuel distribution and generator efficiency to minimize disruptions while prioritizing long-term resource sustainability.
