Tehran’s Environmental Challenge: A Glimpse into the Capital’s Air Quality Data
A Scarcity of Clean Air
Recent data released by Tehran’s Air Quality Control Company has painted a stark picture of the capital’s environmental conditions this year. The report reveals that the city has experienced a mere six days of what is classified as “clean air” since the beginning of the current calendar year.
Breaking Down the Numbers
The official statistics provide a detailed breakdown of Tehran’s air quality over the past months:
- 6 days of clean air.
- 123 days of acceptable air quality.
- 106 days of air pollution levels deemed unhealthy for sensitive groups.
- 11 days of air quality unhealthy for the general population.
- 2 days of very unhealthy air.
- 2 days of hazardous air conditions.
Current Red Alert Status
Compounding the annual summary, the report also highlighted the immediate situation. At the time of the announcement, Tehran’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was registered at 166, placing it in the “red” or unhealthy zone for all residents. This follows a 24-hour period where the average index was even higher, at 170, confirming a persistent period of poor air quality.
This data underscores the ongoing focus and efforts required to address environmental concerns in the capital.
