Title: Noor Afshar Hospital: A Legacy of Compassion and Cutting-Edge Healthcare in Tehran
A Historical Beacon of Care
Noor Afshar Hospital in Tehran stands as a testament to Iran’s commitment to advanced healthcare and social welfare. Originally established as a small sanctuary by the late Abolhassan Noor Afshar to care for abandoned children afflicted with polio, the facility has since evolved into the Middle East’s most specialized rehabilitation center.
In 1960, Noor Afshar dedicated his estate—including a four-hectare garden and private water canal—to formally establish the Noor Afshar Sanatorium for the Disabled. By 1976, the site expanded into a full-fledged hospital, featuring orthopedics, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, radiology, and laboratory services.
A Pillar of National Service
Following the 1979 Revolution, the hospital was temporarily managed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. During the Iran-Iraq War, it operated under the Martyrs Foundation, providing critical care to wounded soldiers. Post-war, it served as a rehabilitation center for veterans under the Foundation of the Oppressed and Veterans of the Islamic Revolution.
After years of dedicated efforts by the Iranian Red Crescent Society, the hospital was modernized and expanded in 2000, ensuring its continued role as a leader in medical innovation.
