Tehran Faces Extended Dry Spell, Official Warns of Water Supply Challenges
An Ongoing Drought
According to Sahar Tajbakhsh, the head of the Iranian Meteorological Organization, the predicted conditions of low precipitation are continuing across the nation. Based on current forecasts, no rainfall is expected in Tehran province for the next ten days. This dry pattern is persisting with greater intensity in many regions of the country, including the eastern and southern areas and the central Zagros plateau.
Strain on Tehran’s Resources
Officials have highlighted the particular challenges facing the capital. Tajbakhsh explained that Tehran bears a very heavy population load, which naturally leads to significantly higher water consumption compared to other provinces. Consequently, securing an adequate water supply for the region is a more complex task.
A Widespread Climate Pattern
The official clarified that drought conditions are present across both the Iranian plateau and the Zagros regions. While the entire country is experiencing dry weather, the severity of water shortage is somewhat less in the northern strip of Iran compared to other areas. Current weather systems indicate that the absence of rainfall in Tehran is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.
