Iran Denounces Israeli Strikes on Lebanon, Labels UN Security Council’s Inaction ‘Catastrophic’
Tehran Slams Israeli Strikes on Lebanon
The Islamic Republic of Iran, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, has vehemently condemned recent Israeli airstrikes targeting Lebanese territory, specifically the Bekaa region. These aggressive acts reportedly resulted in a number of martyrs and injured individuals, alongside significant damage to vital Lebanese infrastructure.
UN Security Council Urged to Act Decisively
In response to the escalating situation, the spokesperson issued a strong call for immediate and urgent action from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Tehran emphasized that the UNSC must fulfill its fundamental responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, urging it to intervene to halt the continuous violations.
‘Catastrophic’ Inaction of the International Body
The Iranian official critically characterized the UN Security Council’s prolonged silence and continued inaction in the face of what was described as the “Israeli regime’s lawlessness and crimes” as “catastrophic.” This stark assessment underscores concerns regarding the consistent breaches of Lebanon’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
US and France Held Responsible as Ceasefire Guarantors
In a politically charged statement, the spokesperson directly attributed responsibility for the ongoing instability and continuation of such situations to the United States and France. These two nations were specifically named as guarantors of the ceasefire, with the implication that their failure to uphold their commitments contributes directly to the prevailing challenges in the region.
