Title: Leadership Transition at Esteghlal: A Test of Institutional Cohesion
A Change in Command
Following the acceptance of Ali Nazari Jouybari’s resignation from the role of CEO by the board of directors of Esteghlal Club, Ali Tajernia has been appointed as the acting chief to oversee operations. While Tajernia is now entering his third month in this custodial role, significant speculation continues to surround the appointment of a permanent CEO for the prominent institution.
Prioritizing Team Cohesion
Ali Nazari Jouybari, who remains a member of the club’s board, has commented on the ongoing situation. Emphasizing stability, he stated, “Mr. Tajernia insists that he does not wish to remain in the position, but we are trying to persuade him to stay. The cohesion of our team is more important than immediately searching for a new CEO. However, whatever decision the board of directors makes, we will comply.”
This focus on internal unity highlights the board’s primary objective of maintaining a stable and harmonious environment during this period of transition.
A Deliberate Selection Process
When questioned about potential candidates for the CEO position, Nazari confirmed that discussions are in a preliminary phase. “The names of individuals who have previously served as CEO, as well as several new candidates, have been mentioned,” he explained. “However, no formal discussions have been held with anyone yet.”
He further clarified that the selection process was actively discussed in the latest board meeting, with Tajernia himself putting forward several names for consideration. “We are engaged in discussions and reviews to see what the outcome will be,” Nazari added. “We are trying to convince Tajernia to stay; if that is not successful, we will have to turn to another individual.”
The methodical and consensus-driven approach to this appointment underscores the board’s commitment to a decision that ensures the long-term stability and success of the club.
