Red Ambition: Persepolis Women’s Team Enters League as Championship Contenders
Tehran – The newly promoted women’s football team of Persepolis is poised to make its mark, with its coach declaring the squad a “galaxy of stars” and a serious contender for the championship title in the upcoming Women’s Premier League.
A Meteoric Rise to the Top Tier
In a significant development for Iranian women’s sports, the Persepolis women’s football team is preparing for its historic debut in the Women’s Premier League. Less than ten days remain before the team faces Esteghlal Alborz in its first top-flight match. Having been established just two years ago, the club has achieved a rapid ascent, swiftly earning promotion to the country’s premier football division.
Coach Confident in Team’s Readiness
Leading the ambitious project is Maryam Azmoun, the former head coach of the Iranian national team and the current manager of Persepolis. Dismissing any notion that her move to the league was abrupt, Azmoun stated, “It’s not too soon at all. I didn’t come from outside of football. I came to the Premier League from the national teams.”
Speaking on the team’s preparation, Azmoun expressed strong optimism. “For the beginning, the team’s condition is satisfactory, and after every training session, a noticeable difference can be felt. I have a positive impression of the team’s situation,” she added.
A Squad of Stars Ready to Shine
When discussing the opening match against Esteghlal Alborz, Coach Azmoun was effusive in her praise for her players, showcasing the high morale within the squad. “Each and every one of my players is a star. We respect our opponent, but the Persepolis girls are extraordinary. We just need a little more time for each player to settle into the lineup,” she remarked.
Championship Mentality Driven by Support
The ambitions for the club are clear. Azmoun confirmed that the management has structured its plans with a championship-winning vision. This objective is further bolstered by strong fan support, which Azmoun identified as a key asset for the team. “We have excellent fans who are considered the team’s capital,” she said. “Our aim is to proceed with their support and backing in such a way that we ultimately achieve a satisfactory result.”
