Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli Declares Inevitable Defeat for Opponents of Truth, Outlines Islamic System’s Guiding Role
Qom, Iran – Grand Ayatollah Abdullah Javadi Amoli, a prominent Iranian jurist, delivered a powerful address in Qom emphasizing a fundamental universal principle: inevitable defeat for any individual or society that stands against truth. Speaking at his weekly ethics lesson held at the Grand Mosque in Qom, attended by diverse segments of the population, the esteemed scholar underscored the critical role of the Islamic system in guiding society towards righteousness.
A Universal Principle: The Power of Truth
Drawing upon the profound wisdom of Imam Ali (AS), Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli stated, “Anyone who exposes themselves to the truth will not perish.” He further elaborated on this, asserting that “Truth is a strong, resilient, and unconquerable reality, and the entire universal order bears witness to it. Therefore, any individual or society that stands against truth is destined for destruction and defeat.” He stressed that while this universal law holds, every human being remains obligated to diligently perform their duties within the cosmic order.
The Imperative of Societal Guidance
The Grand Ayatollah highlighted that among all beings, humans uniquely possess the capacity to deviate from the path of truth. He identified two primary sources for such deviation: ignorance (جهل) and individual heedlessness (جهالت فردی). He assigned specific responsibilities for combating these: seminaries and universities are tasked with eradicating ignorance, while mosques and Husayniyyahs are responsible for addressing individual heedlessness.
Crucially, Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli emphasized that the core mission of the “Imamate and Ummah” system—the leadership and community—is the “eradication of Jahiliyyah” (ignorance and spiritual heedlessness). This fundamental duty, he asserted, is the bedrock upon which society is guided towards truth and divine principles.
Upholding Individual and Collective Duty
The esteemed jurist also addressed the spiritual well-being of individuals, likening the heart to the body in its susceptibility to fatigue. Just as the body requires rest and remedies, the heart too can become weary. Its cure, he explained, lies in wisdom, sagacious advice, divine verses, supplications such as Munajat Sha’bania, and fostering a connection with the holy shrines of the Ahl al-Bayt. A fatigued heart, he cautioned, cannot properly benefit from worship.
He further elaborated on the profound significance of the heart, stating that while physical limbs will bear witness in the afterlife, the heart is the essence of human identity. “Humanity lies in the heart,” he affirmed, “and because this heart is solely dependent on its Creator, it will become weary if preoccupied with anything other than God. Therefore, one must be discerning about what is allowed into the heart to prevent heedlessness.”
A Prayer for Progress
Concluding his discourse, Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli offered prayers for the continued success of the society, its officials, and the entire Islamic system, seeking their guidance and prosperity under the luminous principles of the Quran and the pure Household of the Prophet (Etrat).
