Thousands in Turkey Rally Against Foreign Intervention and Injustice
Istanbul, Turkey – In a significant display of solidarity, nearly a thousand individuals braved heavy rain in the heart of Istanbul to protest against ongoing conflicts and what they describe as oppressive foreign policies impacting regions including Lebanon, Palestine, and Iran.
Unified Voice for the Oppressed
Organized by a coalition of religious non-governmental organizations, the demonstration saw participants raising their voices with powerful slogans such as “Resist, Gaza will be victorious” and “Muslims do not bow to oppression.” Banners prominently displayed messages condemning the actions of Israel and the United States, with specific criticism leveled against Israel’s closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Global Solidarity in Protest
One protester, Mehmet Yilmaz, articulated the broad scope of the demonstration, telling Al Jazeera, “We are here for all the oppressed people of the world: Lebanon, Iran, Palestine. Yesterday it was Venezuela. Tomorrow, it will likely be Cuba. We are here for all of them.” This sentiment underscores a commitment to addressing global injustices.
Faith and Resilience Highlighted
Another participant, Ekrem Ceylan, speaking to the Associated Press, drew a contrast between perceived responses to conflict. He remarked on Iran’s actions, stating that despite claims of an impenetrable “Iron Dome,” Israelis reportedly seek shelter at the sound of alarms. Ceylan contrasted this with the resilience of Iranians, who he suggested take to the streets, attributing this fortitude to their faith and conviction. “If they [Israelis] had faith, they would not fear death,” he asserted. The rally underscored a strong sense of shared concern for human dignity and a call for international justice.
