Tragic Collision in Kurdistan Province Claims Life and Injures Eight
A somber mood has fallen over the Kurdistan province following a severe traffic accident on Thursday afternoon that resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. The incident underscores the critical importance of road safety, particularly on the region’s challenging mountain routes.
The Incident
According to Babak Hedayi, the Head of the Pre-hospital Emergency and Accident Management Center of Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, the collision occurred on the Saqqez-Bukan road in the Sara Pass area. The accident involved three passenger vehicles: a Samand, a Peugeot, and a Paykan.
Emergency Response Mobilized
Upon notification of the crash, the emergency dispatch center acted swiftly. “Immediately after the incident was reported, five ambulances were dispatched to the scene from Saqqez and Bukan counties,” Mr. Hedayi confirmed. The rapid deployment of emergency services highlights the efficiency of the province’s disaster response protocols.
Casualties and Medical Care
Tragically, despite the best efforts of the emergency personnel, one of the vehicle’s occupants succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Eight other individuals sustained injuries in the collision. Following initial medical treatment at the site, five of the wounded were transferred to Shafa Hospital in Saqqez, while the remaining three were admitted to Shahid Gholipour Hospital in Bukan for further care.
A Call for Caution
Concluding his statement, Mr. Hedayi expressed his deep regret over the incident and emphasized the vital need for drivers to adhere to traffic regulations. He specifically highlighted the necessity for heightened caution on the province’s busy and mountainous roads. He also commended the dedication and selflessness of the emergency crews, stating, “The moment of an accident is the real testing ground for our emergency forces, and our colleagues once again appeared on the scene with sacrifice and commitment.”
