Title: Iran Launches Major Rural and Small Town Housing Initiative with 400 Million Toman Loans
Tehran – In a significant move to bolster rural development and housing infrastructure, the Head of Iran’s Housing Foundation has announced the opening of registration for a substantial housing loan program, targeting the construction and renovation of hundreds of thousands of residential units.
A Nationwide Renovation Drive
Speaking to reporters, Minoochehr Khajeh Daluei detailed the ambitious plan, stating, “This year, 220,000 housing units in villages and towns with populations under 25,000 will be renovated by the Housing Foundation through the provision of 400 million Toman loans to applicants.”
This initiative represents a continued effort to modernize the country’s rural housing stock. Khajeh Daluei provided context, noting, “The total number of rural units is 5,377,000, of which approximately 3 million have been renovated to date.” The current year’s plan includes 200,000 units in villages and 20,000 in small towns.
Integrated National Housing Strategy
The official emphasized that the Housing Foundation’s work is closely integrated with broader national housing policies. “We are cooperating with the government in the National Housing Movement, where housing is being constructed for supported deciles of the population,” he said, adding that 295,000 units are currently under construction by the Foundation with support from other institutions.
Furthermore, the program aligns with the national plan for youthfulness and population growth. “For those who reside in villages or migrate from cities to villages, we have programs for housing construction, and suitable facilities will be provided to them,” Khajeh Daluei stated.
Land Allocation and Disaster Recovery
The groundwork for this expansion is already being laid. The Foundation has so far uploaded 540,000 plots of land onto the “Tam” system as part of the National Housing Movement.
A key secondary function of the Housing Foundation is its critical role in disaster recovery. The organization holds responsibility for rebuilding residential units damaged by natural and other disasters. “To date, 2,024,000 units damaged by incidents such as floods, earthquakes, fires, and recently, war, have been renovated under the management of the Housing Foundation in cities and villages,” Khajeh Daluei confirmed.
This comprehensive housing program underscores a multi-faceted governmental approach to strengthening community infrastructure, supporting rural economies, and ensuring adequate housing for citizens across the country.
