Workers’ Union Holds Meeting on Pension Fund Challenges
A gathering organized by the Veterans Union of the Labor Community was held at the central office of the Workers’ House to mark Journalist’s Day. Retirees, union members, and journalists covering labor and social security issues discussed pressing concerns, including wages, delayed payments, and the financial stability of the Social Security Fund.
Economic Pressures Demand Immediate Solutions
Sadeghi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Workers’ House, addressed the country’s fragile economic conditions, stating: “We stand by the integrity of the Social Security Organization but cannot remain passive as challenges persist. The transfer of Bank Refah has delayed retirees’ payments from the 20th to the end of each month. Today, we will meet with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to expedite a two-pronged plan for Bank Refah’s return.”
He further emphasized that the Social Security Fund must adapt, extending coverage to informal workers, digital platform laborers, and foreign nationals who currently lack insurance contributions. “Retirees’ overdue payments from March must be settled, and their healthcare strategies reformed,” he added.
Call for Structural Reforms to Safeguard Pensions
Alireza Mahjoub, Secretary-General of the Workers’ House, highlighted retirees’ concerns and the media’s role in amplifying their voices: “Since 2003, the Social Security Fund has struggled with savings depletion, as inflation erodes its resources. We insist on actuarial calculations as the foundation for preserving the fund. The government must engage in dialogue to assess inflation’s impact and prevent a full-blown crisis.”
Retirees Demand Government Intervention
During the meeting, retirees called for wage adjustments, overdue payments, and stronger protections for the Social Security Fund, urging Parliament and the government to take swift action to address their grievances.
