Vance: No Protracted US War in Mideast Amid Iran Policy Debate
US Policy on Iran: Military and Diplomatic Avenues Explored
US Vice President J.D. Vance has affirmed that despite military action against Iran remaining an option under consideration by Donald Trump, there is “no chance” such a move would entangle the United States in a prolonged, multi-year conflict in the Middle East.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Vance noted that Trump’s ultimate decision regarding Iran is yet to be determined. He outlined that the options under review include military strikes “to ensure Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons,” as well as resolution “through diplomacy.”
Emphasis on Diplomatic Solutions
Vance underscored a broad preference for diplomatic engagement. “I think we all prefer the diplomatic option,” he stated, adding that the path forward “really depends on what the Iranians do and say.”
Confidence Against Escalation
Addressing potential scenarios, Vance conveyed his assurance that should Trump authorize another series of attacks against Iran — which some US officials have suggested could be more extensive than the reported bombing of nuclear facilities in June — it would not escalate into the lengthy conflict he has frequently critiqued. The Vice President concluded by reiterating his continued “skepticism regarding foreign military interventions.”
