Headline: Government Spokesperson Clarifies Procedures Following Document Transfer from Fordow
Tehran – In a recent press briefing, Iranian Government Spokesperson Fatemeh Mahagerani addressed several points regarding the nation’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), providing clarity on procedural matters and reaffirming Iran’s commitment to its sovereign rights.
Addressing the Vienna Document Transfer
Responding to questions about reports of leaked IAEA documents, Mahagerani confirmed that in early May, two documents to which inspectors had access were transferred from the Fordow facility to the agency’s headquarters in Vienna.
Following this transfer, the Iranian government registered a formal, written objection with the IAEA. As a result of this protest, the permits for the two individuals involved were revoked, and their cooperation with Iran was formally terminated.
Cooperation Under the New Law
The spokesperson emphasized that Iran’s ongoing cooperation with the international nuclear watchdog is being negotiated and pursued strictly within the framework of the new law passed by the Iranian Parliament. This structured approach ensures that all interactions are conducted according to national legislation and established protocols.
Regarding questions concerning enriched uranium, the spokesperson stated that the materials in question are in a location where access is not permitted, underscoring that Iran’s nuclear activities continue to be managed within its rights as a sovereign nation.
A Unified National Position on the NPT
On the broader question of a potential withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Mahagerani outlined a consultative process. While different branches of the Iranian government may pursue various aspects of the issue, any final decision will be made through a comprehensive consensus at the highest level of the system, reflecting a unified national stance.
