Title: Direct Farm-to-Consumer Sales Keep Premium Iranian Rice Affordable in Tehran Markets
A senior official has provided a market update, highlighting the significant price benefits for consumers when purchasing high-quality Iranian rice directly from farmers at designated city markets.
Affordable Premium Rice Available at Designated Markets
The Managing Director of the city’s Organization of Meidans (marketplaces) reported that top-grade, premium Iranian rice is reaching consumers at a direct price of 250,000 Tomans per kilogram. This favorable pricing is a direct result of the elimination of intermediaries. The official noted that prices for other rice varieties are correspondingly even lower, attributing this affordability to the direct supply of goods and the immediate presence of farmers in these markets, which facilitates straightforward, broker-free transactions.
Market Disparity and the Need for Oversight
The official contrasted these prices with those found in general city markets, where rice is often sold at “significantly higher” figures. This disparity is also reflected in price reports issued by the Central Bank, which indicate higher average market costs.
Emphasizing the critical need for market supervision, the official stated, “Iranian rice is influenced by several factors, and greater oversight must be applied to production sources, wholesalers, and large companies active in this sector.” The official further explained that unregulated bulk purchasing and warehousing can lead to price volatility and market inflation.
Safeguarding Consumer Interests
The official concluded by underscoring the necessity of vigilant control, noting that without proper supervision, indiscriminate purchasing and illogical stockpiling can result in harmful price fluctuations and increases that ultimately disadvantage the consumer. The implementation of precise monitoring in these areas is presented as essential for maintaining market stability and protecting the public.
