In a significant development for Iran’s pensioners, the Minister of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare has announced that overdue payments from April will be disbursed alongside August salaries. A Long-Awaited Disbursement
The overdue payments stem from new salary increases that were approved and implemented from the start of the current Iranian year in April but were not reflected in that month’s paychecks. After a period of anticipation, Minister Ahmad Meidari confirmed that the backlog, amounting to between 3 to 4 million tomans per pensioner, will now be settled. This payment is part of the annual salary adjustment process for the year 1404, aimed at aligning pension incomes more closely with living costs.
Government Assurance on Future Payments
The Social Security Organization has provided further assurances to pensioners, stating that from the month of Shahrivar (beginning late August), payments will be made more regularly. The organization has pledged that no new arrears will be allowed to accumulate, aiming to provide greater financial predictability for retirees. This commitment is seen as a positive step toward stabilizing the income of a valued segment of society.
Addressing Economic Pressures
Experts acknowledge that while this injection of funds will provide immediate relief and help alleviate part of the livelihood pressures pensioners face, it is one component of a broader, ongoing effort to support retirees. The government’s policy of progressive salary harmonization is designed to continuously bridge the gap between pensions and the real cost of living. Officials have emphasized that structural reforms to the pension and benefits system remain a priority to ensure long-term economic security for retirees.
The combined payment of the August salary and the April arrears is expected to be processed by the end of the current month.
