Government Addresses Poultry Price Adjustment, Ensures Stable Supply and Bread Prices
In response to recent market developments, Iranian economic officials have clarified the reasons behind the new pricing for poultry and reaffirmed their commitment to market stability and consumer protection.
Addressing Production Costs
Following a joint decision by the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad and the Market Regulation Headquarters, the price of chicken has been adjusted to reflect increased production costs. Hesmatollah Asgari, the Deputy Economic Governor of Tehran Province, confirmed that this necessary measure has already yielded a positive outcome: the supply of poultry to the province has seen a significant boost.
“Fortunately, the supply has also increased,” Asgari stated, “so much so that the entry of chicken into the province in the past two to three days, after the announcement of the new prices, has had an upward trend, and we now have a daily input of over 1,600 tons.” This supply comfortably exceeds the province’s estimated daily consumption of 1,200 tons, ensuring adequate availability for consumers.
Curbing Market Violations
The official also addressed previous distribution issues, noting that producers’ unions had previously called for a price review. He explained that the lack of a price adjustment had, in some cases, led to a reluctance to supply and limitations in distribution.
“Thankfully, with the determination and announcement of the new rate for the consumer, the supply of chicken is being carried out normally,” Asgari said. He issued a firm warning, adding, “If this trend does not continue, violators will certainly be dealt with decisively and to the maximum legal capacity.”
Stability in Bread Prices Reaffirmed
In a related assurance for household budgets, Asgari firmly denied any plans for an increase in the price of bread. He emphasized that the current rate is considered fair and has already accounted for all necessary costs.
“There is no program to increase the price of bread. The current price of bread is a fair rate, and all the costs and items that some claimed needed review have been included in the new price,” he clarified. “Therefore, no justification for a price increase from any bakery will be accepted.”
Asgari concluded by underscoring the ongoing strict oversight, confirming that bakeries are obligated to adhere to the approved prices and that inspectors are continuously present to monitor compliance, ensuring stability in this essential food sector.
