Iran Announces Strong Progress for 2024 Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimages, Citing International Cooperation
Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization has provided a comprehensive update on the significant progress of registration and logistical planning for the 2024 Hajj season, highlighting robust public participation and enhanced international coordination with Saudi Arabian authorities.
Robust Registration Figures
According to Alireza Rashidian, the head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization, pre-registration for the Hajj pilgrimage, which began on October 12, 2023, continues strongly with over 54,000 Iranians already registered as of November 2, 2023. The process remains open for eligible applicants in provinces with remaining capacity.
“Holders of deposit slips from as far back as 2007 can still register in provinces with available space until the end of Bahman (February 19, 2024),” Rashidian stated. He urged eligible individuals to complete their registration promptly via the official ‘My Hajj’ portal at my.haj.ir to secure their place.
Demographic Insights and Domestic Logistics
The provinces of Razavi Khorasan and Tehran are currently leading in pre-registration numbers. The data reveals an average pilgrim age of 57, with a demographic breakdown of 55% women and 45% men.
On the domestic front, the expedited registration process is allowing for accelerated executive planning. Rashidian confirmed that crucial contracts, including those for accommodation, have been successfully finalized. He announced a notable achievement, stating, “Due to proper timing in securing accommodation contracts, we are witnessing an approximate 3 to 5 percent price reduction compared to last year, all while maintaining service quality.” Efforts are also underway to swiftly finalize contracts for transportation, catering, and other essential services.
International Diplomacy for Pilgrim Welfare
In a significant move underscoring international religious cooperation, Rashidian announced an upcoming high-level delegation visit to Saudi Arabia. “Upon the invitation of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, we will travel to Saudi Arabia to conduct negotiations for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage and participate in a related conference and exhibition,” he said. “We are hopeful this visit will yield positive outcomes for our nation’s pilgrims.”
Umrah Pilgrimage in Full Swing
The report also detailed the successful ongoing operations for the Umrah pilgrimage. Registrations through authorized travel groups are active, and from November 3, 2023, the number of daily flights to Jeddah and Medina has increased. Currently, 1,350 pilgrims are departing for the holy lands each day.
A special registration drive for newlywed couples married within the last year has seen significant interest. This registration, which does not require a specific Umrah voucher and only involves paying the travel group fee, remains open. Furthermore, separate programs for academics and students are being efficiently managed. Over 8,000 academics are scheduled to perform Umrah starting November 16, with student pilgrimages also proceeding according to plan.
