Agricultural Sector Stability Underscores National Resilience Amidst Global Challenges
Tehran, Iran – Iran’s agricultural sector is demonstrating remarkable stability and growth, defying global economic pressures and demonstrating the nation’s self-sufficiency in food security, according to the Minister of Agriculture. Speaking at a recent Ministry of Agricultural Jihad trade council meeting, Gholamreza Nouri Qazalje highlighted the collaborative efforts of producers, farmers, operators, and the entire food supply chain as instrumental in achieving this “desirable state” in food security.
Stable Markets and Economic Realities
Minister Nouri Qazalje emphasized that the agricultural produce market is currently in a stable condition. He asserted that observed price increases are “in line with economic indicators” and are not a result of managerial shortcomings. This indicates a controlled and predictable market environment.
Resilience Amidst International Turbulence
The minister further elaborated on Iran’s position amidst a challenging global landscape. While many nations grapple with energy and food crises stemming from international conflicts, Iran, despite facing sanctions and complex geopolitical conditions, has not experienced any “shortage or instability” in its agricultural produce supply. This resilience is a testament to the nation’s strategic planning and domestic capacity.
Price Dynamics and Proactive Policies
Addressing price fluctuations, Minister Nouri Qazalje explained that products not directly influenced by currency exchange rates have experienced only “natural, annual increases.” For goods linked to foreign exchange, such as dairy, poultry, and certain protein items, prices have yet to reach their “expert-calculated levels.” He cautioned against “price suppression,” warning that it ultimately leads to reduced production and shortages. The minister underscored the necessity of presenting “real statistics and calculations” to demonstrate the importance of maintaining production costs and preventing losses for producers.
Supporting Producers and Consumers
To safeguard both production and consumption, the government is implementing strategic policies. Minister Nouri Qazalje mentioned initiatives like the “Kalā-barg” (coupon or voucher system), designed to prevent harm to production and support consumers. These measures aim to ensure that producers do not incur losses, thereby maintaining a sustainable production cycle and consistent supply of essential agricultural goods.
