Grand Ayatollah Addresses Hajj 1405 Pilgrimage Amidst Current Conditions
Qom, Iran – Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, a prominent Shia cleric, has issued a religious edict clarifying the obligation for Muslims to perform Hajj in the year 1405 (Hijri Solar calendar), taking into account the prevailing circumstances. The Fatwa, released by his office, provides guidance for believers seeking to undertake the sacred pilgrimage.
Understanding Religious Ability (Istita’at) for Hajj
The religious ruling addresses two key scenarios for potential pilgrims. Firstly, for individuals who have the financial means to perform Hajj this year but harbor genuine fear due to current conditions – such as concerns for personal safety or significant insecurity – their religious ability to fulfill the obligatory Hajj (Hajjat al-Islam) is deemed absent. This provision acknowledges the paramount importance of safety and peace of mind in undertaking such a spiritual journey.
Postponing Pilgrimage Amidst Apprehension
Secondly, the edict clarifies the situation for those whose financial capability for Hajj dates back to previous years. If these individuals now have rational apprehensions and concerns regarding traveling for Hajj due to the current environment, they are permitted to postpone their pilgrimage to the following year. This directive reflects a considered approach to the spiritual and practical aspects of fulfilling the Hajj obligation, ensuring it is undertaken with confidence and security.
