Iran Urges Regional Neighbors to Uphold Sovereignty Amidst US Operations
United Nations, New York – The Islamic Republic of Iran has lodged strong protests with the United Nations Secretary-General and the Security Council, asserting that the United States has been exploiting the territories and airspace of five regional nations for military actions targeting Iran. Ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, communicated these concerns in a series of letters, emphasizing the importance of neighborly conduct and the principles of international law.
Demand for Respect of Territorial Integrity
In formal communications to Secretary-General António Guterres and members of the Security Council, Iran unequivocally condemned the alleged use of the territories and airspace of Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia by the United States. Iran’s envoy highlighted the international responsibility of states in preventing their territories from being used for aggressive acts against third countries.
Ambassador Iravani stated, “In light of the international responsibility of states stemming from allowing their territories to be used by others for the commission of aggressive acts and armed attacks against a third state’s territory, the Islamic Republic of Iran hereby declares its strong and explicit objection to the aforementioned illegal action.”
Call for Adherence to Good Neighborly Principles
The Islamic Republic of Iran has directly called upon the governments of Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia to adhere to the principles of good neighborliness and to cease any further utilization of their territories for operations against Iran.
The detailed letters to the UN outlined specific instances, providing dates and times of alleged U.S. reconnaissance flights, aerial refueling, and direct airstrikes that, according to Iran’s assessment, originated from or utilized the airspace of these neighboring countries. These communications underscore Iran’s commitment to diplomatic channels and its call for regional stability and respect for sovereign borders.
