Iranian Authorities Issue Warnings as Four Provinces Face Intensifying Cold Snap
TEHRAN – In a coordinated national effort, Iranian meteorological officials have detailed a significant shift in weather patterns, placing a particular emphasis on safeguarding agricultural and civilian welfare across several provinces. While the country is largely expected to experience stable and clear conditions, specific regions are on high alert for a severe cold spell.
Stable Skies, Localized Concerns
According to Sadeq Ziaeian, Head of the National Center for Weather Prediction and Crisis Management at the Iran Meteorological Organization, the majority of Iran will enjoy clear and calm weather over the next five days. He noted, however, that some areas along the Caspian Sea coast might see cloud formation and scattered rain.
The primary focus of the forecast, however, centers on the eastern half of the nation. “In the eastern half of the country, especially in the Zabol region, strong winds are forecast for certain hours,” Ziaeian stated. He further warned that in areas prone to dust storms, this could lead to reduced visibility and a decline in air quality.
Agricultural Sector on Orange Alert
A key element of the official warnings is the issuance of an “orange level” frost alert for orchards in the northeastern provinces. The affected regions include North Khorasan, Razavi Khorasan, and South Khorasan, with the most intense cold expected to persist until early Tuesday morning. This proactive measure underscores the government’s focus on protecting vital agricultural assets from the damaging effects of the freeze.
Concurrently, a noticeable drop in temperatures is anticipated today in South Khorasan, southern Razavi Khorasan, and Sistan and Baluchestan, prompting official advisories for the public to observe necessary safety precautions.
Thunderstorms and Persistent Winds
The forecast also indicates that by Wednesday and Thursday, convective clouds may develop in the south of Sistan and Baluchestan, southern Kerman, and the highlands of Hormozgan. These conditions bring the potential for showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds during the afternoon and early evening.
The capital, Tehran, is expected to see clear skies with occasionally increasing winds, with temperatures ranging between a minimum of 16°C and a maximum of 27°C. The national weather agency continues to monitor the situation, emphasizing that strong winds will persist in the eastern provinces, particularly in Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan.
