Nine Months and Counting: A Teacher’s Struggle Amidst Auto Industry Delays
In a story highlighting the economic challenges faced by some citizens, a long-serving contract teacher has shared his difficult experience after purchasing a vehicle through a government-allocated voucher system, a program intended to facilitate car ownership.
The educator, who has dedicated over a decade to teaching, explained that he invested his family’s entire savings—including his wife’s gold—to secure a car voucher with the hope of receiving the vehicle within a year. However, more than nine months past the promised delivery date, he is still waiting.
“Last year, I spent all my wife’s gold and years of savings to buy the car voucher,” he stated. “I even took out several loans so I could eventually use the car for extra work in the afternoons, like offering rides or transport services. But more than a year later, the factory still hasn’t delivered the vehicle. Every time we ask, we are given empty promises.”
The financial toll has been severe. When he sold the family’s gold, the price per gram was approximately 3.7 million tomans. Today, that price has risen to over 8.7 million tomans. “Not only have I not received the car,” he emphasized, “but the value of my assets has been cut in half. My family and I are the ones bearing the loss.”
The teacher also touched upon the broader professional conditions he and his colleagues face, describing years of working with low pay and difficult circumstances. “We’ve been promised permanent contracts many times, but none of those promises were fulfilled. Now, in middle age, we have neither job security nor sufficient income to make a living.”
He added with regret, “We studied for years to become contract teachers—educators who must spend everything they have just to hope for a simple vehicle, and still end up waiting. There is no sign of a stable job, sufficient income, or a bright future for our families. All that remains is regret and debt.”
The situation raises questions about production timelines and consumer protection within industrial supply chains. It underscores the importance of timely delivery and accountability in fulfilling public commitments.
