
Escalation on Lebanon’s Southern Border: Military Casualties Reported Amidst Intensified Israeli Airstrikes
Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese army has reported the tragic deaths of a soldier and his brother following an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, marking a significant escalation in cross-border hostilities. The incident underscores the volatile political and security situation on the frontier, with both sides engaged in ongoing military actions.
Deadly Attack on Southern Lebanon
According to an official statement from the Lebanese army, the soldier and his brother were killed while riding a motorcycle in the town of Khirbet Selm. The soldier was reportedly on his way home to Al-Sawana at the time of the attack. This incident highlights the grave danger faced by civilians and military personnel alike in the region.
Widespread Casualties and Damage
The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed a wider impact from Israeli aerial assaults on Tuesday evening in the town of Jibchit, Nabatieh Governorate. This attack resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including another military member and two women, with 21 others injured. Among the wounded were four children and nine women, indicating a devastating impact on the local population.
In the preceding 24 hours, the total number of casualties from ongoing Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon has risen to 21 dead and over 30 wounded. This sustained campaign of strikes has caused considerable damage to residential areas and infrastructure.
Israeli Military Actions Continue
In parallel to the airstrikes, the Israeli military conducted explosions targeting homes in the towns of Shama and Naqoura early on Wednesday. Simultaneously, Israeli drones carried out several sporadic aerial attacks across various regions. Reports indicate that the towns of Rshaf, Buraashit, Al-Tiri, Al-Ghandouriyeh, and Burj Qallawiyah were also targeted. A drone attack on the town of Al-Shaaitiyya resulted in one fatality.
